The Team

Our team of volunteers led by our President Paul Owen includes people qualified in physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and art therapy. Other members of the team have worked in social services, nursing and care services.

When you first contact Stroke Association Spain, a member of the team will talk to you about your stroke – advice and information will be offered – and information about our group meetings given, which are held on Friday afternoons. Some of the voluntary helpers

Once you come to the group, you will have an assessment, following which you will have regular treatment with our therapists, if that is what you wish, and in agreement with you. There is no charge to you for any treatment provided at the group. Blood pressure checks are undertaken by a nurse regularly and an art therapist attends the group once a month.

An important part of our group meetings, is the opportunity to socialise with other members (both stroke survivors and their carers) over a cup of tea or coffee. Other volunteers support members in group activities, such as quizzes and board games.

Due to the kind generosity of donors, it is also possible to arrange coach outings and respite breaks.

Some volunteers outside The AnnexWe also have volunteers working “behind the scenes”. Our secretary deals with most of the routine paperwork required to run a charity, and our treasurer (a chartered accountant) makes sure all financial matters are accurately recorded. Our President chairs our committee which oversees all activities and fund raising events; a member and two carers also serve on the committee.
